VANDERBIJLPARK – Emfuleni local municipal service center in town re-opened after Rand Water lifted its bank attachments on the local authority’s bank accounts.
Rand Water has temporarily lifted its bank attachments to allow ELM salary payments on 25 July but then re-imposed them so that service providers could not be paid, a move branded as blackmail tactics by Rand Water.
ELM confirmed that the process of lifting the attachments had begun this week.
These events have had an impact on service delivery was huge as employees could not be paid and created much hardship, says several service providers.
Therefore by attaching bank accounts, Rand Water had in effect cut its own throat as it prevented exactly the service delivery which produced the income to pay ELM debtors, said angry service providers.
