Eskom and the Emfuleni Local Municipality are
pleased to announce a significant milestone in the municipality’s electricity
management. For the first time in months, Emfuleni Local Municipality has
successfully paid its electricity current account in full, following the
signing of the Distribution Agency Agreement (DAA) in October 2024. The DAA
appointed Eskom as the service delivery agent for the municipality’s
electricity business.
This achievement marks a turning point for Emfuleni
Local Municipality, which has historically faced challenges in honoring its
electricity accounts. The partnership between Eskom and the municipality is
yielding positive results not only for Eskom but also for the municipality and
its customers.
Since the implementation of the DAA,
Emfuleni has achieved:

An increase in payment levels, with year-on-year
comparison.
•
Marginal improvement in the reliability of electricity
supply, reducing disruptions.
•
Enhanced maintenance of infrastructure, ensuring a
stable network.
These developments ultimately benefit residents and
businesses, fostering a more reliable electricity supply that supports economic
growth in Emfuleni.
While this progress is commendable, both Eskom and
Emfuleni Local Municipality acknowledge that there is still much work to be
done. Sustaining this performance is key to ensuring that, in the long run, the
municipality can independently manage its electricity business.
