JOHANNESBURG - Steel making giant ArcelorMittal South Africa will keep operations going, for now.
The planned wind-down of the troubled division has been postponed until the 31st of August. This is good news for the company's workers who were facing imminent unemployment.
The company had planned to closed its long steel operations in Newcastle and Vereeniging. This was going to affect over 3500 direct and indirect jobs.
The postponement is a result of a R1,6 billion loan facility from the Industrial Development Corporation.
ArcelorMittal has an agreement in place with the IDC to repay the loan
