EVATON. – Evaton Police launched a manhunt for six men following a carjacking and kidnapping of a 56-year-old man who was lured to a remote location under the pretence of a business meeting.
On January 7, the victim was driving a white Nissan UD 40 truck in Lakeside Proper around 10:00 and had been sent to meet a new client for a job in Zone 6, Sebokeng.
When he arrived at the meeting spot, the client was not there. Instead, the driver was told to go to a second location to meet the client’s “brother.”
According to Evaton police spokesperson Constable Thulisile Msibi, a man (the supposed brother) got into the truck. He told the victim to drive down the street, where another man was waiting, and he also climbed inside the vehicle.
“While they were driving, the first man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the driver,” said Msibi.
Msibi said the group of suspects ended up being six men, aged between 25 and 35, at least two of whom were armed.
“The suspects dumped the victim at the Ennerdale area close to the plots, and he got assistance from Metro Police, where he was taken to the nearest police station to open a case.”
The suspects fled with the victim’s cell phone, driver’s licence, and other personal belongings.
Evaton police are urging anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects to contact 016 466 2203.
